Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas)  arrived.

Published November 23, 2016 by theycallmemrstibbs

Since this will be our 3rd Christmas in The Netherlands, and we have never witnessed Sinterklaas arriving in Leiden, we decided to see it this year. In The Netherlands Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas) brings the children presents on December 5th.

There was even entertainment,  including a band singing classic songs,  in Dutch of course. Since I recognised the tune, I was singing them in English.

After standing around in the cold for a while, surrounded by lots of people, Sinterklaas’ canal barge arrived. It’s The Netherlands so of course he arrives by boat.

If you go you’ll love the atmosphere as everyone is there for the same reason.

A Day Like This

Published November 1, 2016 by theycallmemrstibbs

We decided we wanted to have an us day on 30th October 2016.

So we thought we should go and see the latest prehistoric arrival in Leiden,  Trix the T-Rex. She is named after the last queen of the Netherlands, Beatrix. She was found in Montana state Naturalis bought her.

Dutch news printed the following.

Trix is being presented in a unique, low to the ground pose that will make her seem more dangerous and intense than other T Rex skeletons in museums around the world. The decision was a practical one. Unlike similar displays, Trix will feature her actual skull instead of a replica, which will require a substantial amount of support that can’t be achieved with a more traditional pose. As Schulp told The Chicago Tribune, ‘You can really look the beast in the eye.’ Oh, and in case you were wondering, her missing bones will be replaced by 3D printed replications based on previously discovered T Rex skeletons.

All of the models leading up until seeing her were all moving models which impressed us.

Then around a corner we met the incredible Trix.

To say the least we were just like wow.

We decided it was time for a selfie. She looks as though she is biting Christopher.

Of course I wanted a picture of just me with her and it kind of looks like she photobombed me.

That evening we had arranged to go to a Nepalese restaurant as I had collected some vouchers from the supermarket to get a buy one get one free three course meal from selected restaurants.

We thought it would take us a while to pick what we wanted. They brought us poppadoms with dips then we picked the starter of kebabs very quickly Christopher got chicken tikka and I got lamb tikka.

They were great as you can see they looked great obviously we shared them.

Then we ordered our curries.  Christopher ordered a chicken korma and I ordered a chicken dhansak.

As you can see they looked great and tasted it too. We again shared some of each of them. We both really liked both of them.

For dessert we decided due to the small amount of them and the fact that we were so full that we should have ice cream. I had mango ice cream with whipped cream and Christopher had vanilla ice cream with whipped cream.

We’ve both said we’d go again but no three course meal.

By the end of the day we were singing this song – Feeder – A Day Like This. this is a link to the song.
