Parental visit to Me!

Published July 31, 2015 by theycallmemrstibbs

I know I’m a bit late with this my parents came to visit for 6 days on the 9th July. Christopher was at a conference for the first 2 days so it was all down to me to entertain them.

So i got the train very early to Schiphol Amsterdam airport to meet them.
I had enough time to go for a Vanilla Lemon frappecino from starbucks,  unhealthy I know but I needed it.
They arrived off of the plane a little early, but I had arrived from Leiden a bit early too.

When we had gotten the train from the airport we had to go to my house to have a cup of tea, then we decided that we would go to Dende for lunch.
After lunch we went on a walk up to the Burcht van Leiden
As you can see from the link is a tower in Leiden which I have been to before.
Whoops I thought I’d done a blog post on that but no. So I’ll take another trip to do one. 😳

Any way after the little walk they went back to their hotel and for this great “typical” dutch view

We decided to go for a walk to decide on what we would have for dinner we ended up going to a place where Christopher had previously advise me of. Grand Cafe Van Buuren

Our lovely food.

Then Friday morning came around. We went on a small walk and ended up on guided by signs walking tour.

Then we went off to the Hortus Botanicus

After this we realised that it was getting later in the afternoon so we walked back to my house as Christopher was coming home in a wee while. So we were relaxing and I got a message saying he was on the train back to Leiden from Schiphol airport. So I walked up to meet him.
When he arrived we went home and my parents went back to their hotel and we all got prepared to go out for dinner.
We went to mine Christopher’s favourite British bar The North End Pub

On the Saturday we decided we should go to the beach as it was a good day.image

On the Monday we decided we should go to the Hague.

image

image
Obviously I have done a previous blog post about the Hague.

That evening we went for a wander to decide where to eat. It took us a very long time and walk.
We found here.

On my last day in Leiden with my parents we decided we should try and take it a bit easier, due to medical reasons. So we went for a walk around Leiden for them to get gifts for everyone.
After our lots of walking I became very fatigued, so my parents went on a canal tour on their own. I went home to rest.
That evening we went to an Italian restaurant it was really nice.

On the Wednesday morning we got the train to Schiphol airport with my parents.

It was great having them come to stay with us.

Tumble the Ewok

Published July 20, 2015 by theycallmemrstibbs

Yes that’s right I’ve crocheted an ewok. I bet you can all imagine how excited I got when I got sent the pattern. I was like Eeeeeeeeee when I saw an email saying wicket ewok pattern.

So of course I went out to buy the wool for the pattern.

When I had it all I started, it was a case of work from the feet up.

image

I thought they looked really cute.

image

From there I had to crochet the legs together and start on the body.

image

She started to get some height which isn’t normally required by ewok’s.

The next step was the make a head, I had to start making her face first of call. Then I moved onto making the around face.

image

As you can see as I got to this stage it advised to add her eyes.

image

I then made her ears and added a nose and mouth.

image

I then had to add her head to her body.

image

As you can see I made her arms, only one connected here.

image

And the picture above is her 2 arm look.

Well she was nearly finished but I was supposed to crochet her a hood. I couldn’t do this so I took suggestions from the pattern to use felt.

image

Tada

Between me and Christopher we thought she needed more. We found a magical circle I had made and we thought she could work it.

image

She has a shield so now kicks ass as a defending ewok.

Here is Tumble’s pattern

The Van Gogh museum

Published July 3, 2015 by theycallmemrstibbs

As some of you are aware about 2 weeks ago we went to Amsterdam and went to the Van Gogh Museum.
I tried to take a very grown up picture of us on the train, but it turned out like this.

image

But we still like it.

Before we got in we saw awesomely huge models of Everyone’s Favourite Dutch rabbit Miffy.

image

image

image

image

And of course we were that close we want to get a picture with twinkle twinkle little star Miffy.

image

It was a great day apart from the huge queue to get in.
But luckily because we have a Museumkaart each, we managed to avoid an even bigger line of people.

image

We found out when we go inside we couldn’t take any photographs. 😦

There were some great paintings but unfortunately we found out that Starry Starry Night is actually in New York.  So no chance of us seeing it unless we decide to go to New York.

We were going to go to the Anne Frank Museum but it was queued around the block, it would have taken us at least 3 hours to get in.

After going for some more walking around Amsterdam I did advice Christopher that I need some lunch due to my medication.
So we went for a little walk around and came across an Irish pub so it was win win.

image

image

We were so happy that this place had chips and vinegar it felt really Irish.

image

I was even happy that they had HP Sauce.

Then we saw the best sign ever.
