ESA & ESTEC open day.

Published October 31, 2014 by theycallmemrstibbs

I know not all of you are geeky types like me. If you aren’t you don’t have to look. If you are then carry on.

We got there nice and early as we were told that it gets busy.

image

As you can see not so busy.

image

But as you can see some kind of crowd control after waiting for a while.

image

We even had some astronauts there to welcome us to the open day.

As you can see some exhibits were really cool 😎

Freshly squeezed

Published October 20, 2014 by theycallmemrstibbs

With that title I mean literally as in freshly squeezed juice.

When we moved into our apartment in Leiden we found out there was a Orange juicer.
I decided I could buy oranges cheaper than a carton of juice. Plus it is more fun.

We found out that if we squeezed 4 oranges would make 2 glasses of juice.

So here is our first attempt at juicing.

image

Of course here is my helpful assistance Christopher.

Imagine this with 8 halves of oranges.

image

We were impressed with how empty the halves were once squeezed.

Here you go our finishes product. It was really tasty.

The start of chapter 2.

Yes I got that from our taxi driver from Amsterdam airport.

We arrived on September 29th, this was 2 days prior to Chris starting work.
We had previously been told about October 3, which is basically a huge party over 2 days.

Wikipedia shows “The festival commemorates the anniversary of the 1573–1574 Siege of Leiden, during the Eighty Years’ War, when the Spanish Army attempted to capture the city”

Anyway more on that after.

image

As you can see there are lots of geese hanging around.

image

Needless to say this seriously confused us both. I thought it might mean something about a dog. And, it means Dog in the gutter. Again it leads to a WHAAATT?

image

image

Yes we had very foggy mornings the first we were here.

Then we got the apartment keys.
Obviously I’m not putting pictures on here.

Any way the party started.

image

We saw them putting a ferris wheel up near our house, we had been told about this.
We just didn’t know what to expect.

image

image

As you can see the wheel went up quickly.

Then I got the chance on October 2 to go for a walk.

Yes the haunted house will have been scary to kids.

We decided we would go to listen to some music on the Friday night. It just so happened to be our favourite type of music, classic 70’s & 80’s rock.

And no your eyes are not playing up on you their trousers are crazy. I’ve seen that type in clothes shops here.

I think it goes to show how efficient the dutch are at street cleaning, on the Saturday, after the big party Friday, the streets were spotless. Wow.
