Creating my new craft.

Published August 23, 2013 by theycallmemrstibbs

Well, I say new craft, it’s new to me and obviously not other people.

I’m talking about crocheting. Christopher’s granny taught me at my request when she came to visit in April. She did seem surprised that I wanted to learn how to do it, as apparently most knitters can’t crochet. But I wanted to give it a go.

She had brought some crocheting books with her and already had some hooks that I had bought a long time ago.

Of course she started with the basics like chains, single crochets, double crochets and half double crochets. I know that doesn’t sound simple but trust me when  you have read trough things knowing how to do the stitches makes it easier.

The first thing she started me on was granny squares, and I’m just not calling them that because it was granny who taught me, that is the actually name.

I know it has a glare on the page but I just needed to show you I wasn’t making it up.

So I proceeded to make squares, and trust me once you get started it’s kind of hard to stop doing it.

Above isn’t sewn together as yet as I cannot decide the order to do them in.

After making a lot of granny squares I decided I should try to find something else to make. I thought to things I wear and/or have lost. Then it hit me I always wear bow clips in my hair and I had recently lost one of a set of two. So I got looking for a pattern.

I didn’t have a book with this so I googled it and came up with the following site for my bows.

This was one I made and added ribbon to.

From there I got the idea of trying to make something that wasn’t for use in my hair but that I can decorate things with and of course the girly side of me thought Ooo hearts. And it stuck. So this time I searched YouTube how to make them and found this pattern by Crochet Geek. I loved the name and I gave the pattern a go.

You obviously start with normal wool.

The make a chain of five stitches to make a ring.

After this you do 12 double crochets to make you centre.

From here you might be better watching the video I put on as I understand what I mean, as obviously its coming from my memory.

Obviously I forgot to take a finished project image but, I do have a picture of my first ever one.

As you can see I decorated Christopher’s anniversary gift with it.

I also forgot to show you my very me set of crocheting hooks.

Yes I know this is an android case but my tablet wouldn’t fit in.

I’d encourage anyone to at least try crocheting with the help of either someone who knows how to do it or YouTube.
